So the day is here, 21st October 2015! Future day.
If you haven’t seen The Back To The Future films, then where have you been for like ever because you really need to watch them, then basically, They are a trilogy of films about time travel and going back to the past and into the future, and they have to sort out all of the problems that arise when the history of Marty McFly (the main character’s) past and future is altered. These films came out in 1985, 1989 and 1990 and are set in 1985, 1955, 2015 & 1885. In the 2nd film of the trilogy they go into the future, on the day, Wednesday, 21st October 2015! And now, 30 years on, they have arrived on the same day that they did in the film & hence the name future day!
I remember at Christmas when I was much younger, watching the first film and thinking, I dunno what this film is but its so awesome and I would make sure i would watch it every year as it was always on TV. When I finally found out what film it actually was, I discovered it was part of a trilogy and after watching them all I was sold. They have and always will be one of my favourite films of all time. (Just behind Harry Potter of course!) I have watched them so many times and they never get old.
Back To The Future
In the 1980s, small-town California teen Marty McFly is thrown back into the ’50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents and must make sure that they fall in love or he’ll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.
Back To The Future Part 2
In the sequel time-traveling duo Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown return from saving Marty’s future son from disaster, only to discover their own time transformed. In this nightmarish version of Hill Valley, Marty’s father has been murdered and Biff Tannen, Marty’s nemesis, has profited. After uncovering the secret to Biff’s success — a sports almanac from the future — Marty and the Doc embark on a quest to repair the space-time continuum.
Back To The Future Part 3
In this final chapter, Marty McFly obtains a 70-year-old message from the time-traveling Dr. Emmett Brown in which he informs Marty that he has retired to a small town in the Old West. Marty then finds out that the Doc was murdered shortly after sending the letter. In order to save his friend, Marty will have to travel back in time, disentangle a lovestruck Doc from a local schoolmarm, and repair the DeLorean — all while avoiding a posse of gunslingers.
To mark the occasion, everyone simply went crazy over the idea that the day has finally come, that was the same as the day they travelled to the future in the film. #futureday. They showed all the films, had TV specials, interviews, everything.
At our local cinema they were showing all three films in one long screening on future day, and me and my sister could not miss this opportunity to go and watch them on that day!
The storylines of the films just makes it so interesting and intriguing. It really makes you think, I wonder what it would be like if I went back in time too? What my parents where like? And the idea that one moment can determine your whole density and one moment can change your whole future. It’s just awesome.
The music in the film is just so iconic to them. One of my favourite scenes being right at the beginning of the first film when Marty realise’s he’s late for school and skateboards along to The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and The News.
It’s so strange to think that from now on, whenever I watch the films, they will all be set in the past!
So here’s to another 30 years of loving Back To The Future!
Untill next time
